KENT, Ohio – The Toledo softball team cranked out 12 hits on its way to a 7-5 victory and series win at Kent State on Saturday afternoon. The series finale was into the third inning when the game was called due to severe weather.
The win improved the Rockets to 16-21, 9-10 Mid-American Conference record to put them eighth in the conference standings. The top four teams will play in the postseason 2023 MAC Softball Championships starting Thursday, May 11 at the No. 1 seeded team's field.
Aubrey Reed powered the offense, going 2-for-2 with a home run and double, two runs scored, and an RBI. Reed's homer was her third of the year and second in as many games. In the two games vs. Kent State, Reed went 4-for-6 with two home runs and three RBIs.Â
Macey Moore went 2-for-3 with an RBI, while
Leah Munson and
Anna Dixon also had two hits for the Midnight Blue and Gold.
Sophia Knight (5-8) earned the Game 1 win after pitching 5.2 innings.Â
Erin Hunt came in relief to earn her first save of the season.
Toledo's next series will be at home on Friday-Saturday, April 21-22 at Scott Park vs. Northern Illinois.
Game 1 – Toledo 7, Kent State 5
- Kent State scored two runs off an error and an RBI single to take a 2-0Â lead.
- A solo shot by Emily Lippe in the third made it 3-0 in favor of KSU.
- Aubrey Reed got the Rockets on the board in the fourth with a solo bomb out to right field, and Leah Munson followed with an RBI single to make it 3-2.
- Toledo scored two runs in the fifth to take a 4-3 lead.
- Macey Moore and Aleah Marra hit back-to-back RBI singles to double Toledo's lead 6-3 in the sixth.
- Kent State scored two runs in the sixth to close the gap to 6-5.
- Anna Dixon hit an RBI single up the middle to push the Rockets ahead 7-5 in the seventh.
- The Golden Flashes put the tying run on the bases but failed to score in the seventh.
