Lincoln, Nebr. – Toledo (9-7) dropped a close 4-3 match to Big Ten member Nebraska (3-8) on Friday evening at the Huskers' Sid and Hazel Dillon Tennis Center. 

"This was another good battle all the way back and forth in some really tough conditions," said head coach Al Wermer. "We had a point in which we could have won the match but it just didn't work out for us in the end. I'm really proud of the effort today, especially Reid and Vince who were on fire."

The Rockets jumped ahead, 1-0, by winning the battle for the doubles point. Toledo initially fell behind by losing at No. 2 doubles but secured wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 spots to put UT ahead in the contest. Senior Stjepan Sisko and freshman Thawin Suksathaporn claimed a decisive 6-2 victory over their Husker rival at the top of the lineup to even the score at one match apiece. Sophomores Juan Carranza and Reid Teatsorth clinched the doubles point for the Rockets with a hard-fought 7-6 victory at third doubles.

Nebraska knotted the score by winning at No. 5 singles, but Teatsorth pushed UT ahead again with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 4. The Huskers regained the lead, 3-2, with victories at third and fourth singles.

Carranza had a chance to tie the score once more but fell in three to David Samardzija. Carranza secured a 6-3 win in the opening set but fell 6-0 in Set 2. Samardzija clinched the match for Nebraska with a 7-6 third-set victory over Carranza. 

Sophomore Vince Anzalone's gripping match was the last to finish. Anzalone initially fell behind, 6-4, to Nebraska's Dylan Bednarczyk but fought back to down his opponent, 7-5, in the following frame. The sophomore secured his first victory at No. 1 singles this season with a 6-4 win in Set 3.

Toledo will take the courts again on Sunday to face Wichita State in a 10:00 a.m. match at the Sid and Hazel Dillon Tennis Center.
