TOLEDO, OH - In the 81st minute, a Toledo cross was kicked in the goal by a Detroit defender and it proved to be the lone marker in the Rockets' 1-0 victory on Sunday at Scott Park. With the shutout win, UT improves to 2-3-0 on the season.
Sophomore goalkeeper Katie Wilson made three saves between the posts and notched her first blanking of the season and the fifth of her young career.Â
The Rockets controlled much of the action in the first half, outshooting the Titans 5-3, but neither team had many legit scoring chances. Â Â
Detroit (1-4-0) rallied in the second stanza, as the Titans outshot the Rockets 6-4 and took seven corner kicks in the period.
Late in the match, a through ball from the right sideline from sophomore Alena Sidwell was centered in front of the goal and tapped in by a Detroit defender for the eventual match-winning goal.
Senior Kiersten Johnson, senior tri-captain Brooke Maletic and Sidwell led the Midnight Blue & Gold with two shots each.
Toledo will remain at home and host Cleveland State on Friday, Sept. 9 at 4:00 p.m. at Scott Park.
