TOLEDO - Junior linebacker Junior Sylvestre (Hollywood, FL) was presented with the Jim Nicholson Award at the 2013 University of Toledo Football Banquet held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in downtown Toledo on Sunday, Dec. 15. The Nicholson Award is given annually to the player most contributing to the team's success, and is considered the team's most prestigious award. It is voted on by the players.
Sylvestre was named first-team All-MAC and led the Rockets with 118 tackles. He ranks third in the league with 9.8 tackles per game.
Senior center Zac Kerin (Delaware, OH) was named the team's offense MVP. Kerin, a second-team All-MAC selection, led an offensive line that ranks No. 1 in the nation in fewest sacks allowed (6). Senior defensive end Jayrone Elliott (Cleveland) earned defensive MVP honors. A first-team All-MAC selection, Elliott ranked second in the conference in tackles for loss (14) and third in sacks (9). Junior Jeremiah Detmer (Hilliard, OH) was the special teams MVP. Detmer made 19-of-20 field goals on his way to earning first-team All-MAC honors.
