Pat Hintz, Basketball (1938-1940)

3/24/2010 6:43:00 PM

Harold "Pat" Hintz lettered in basketball from 1938-40. He was an excellent ball handler and a great defender, playing on some of the most successful cage squads in Toledo History. He played on teams that went 52-22 during his career and featured nine other Varsity "T" Hall of Famers. Hintz was the team's second-leading scorer each of his three seasons, finishing behind only Rocket greats Chuck Chuckovits and Bob Gerber. He captained the 1940 squad that won 24 games, the most in a season by any Toledo team. He earned a bachelor of education from UT in 1940 and a master of arts in 1951. After serving in the Marine Air Corps from 1943-46, Hintz was a high school teacher, principal and administrator for 22 years. He also coached basketball for four years, and he led one of his teams to the state semifinals.
