BRIGHTON, MI - The University of Toledo cross country teams both placed third last night in the Eastern Michigan University Triangular. The meet was a chance to race the younger runners and get them running in an NCAA meet.

For the women, sophomore Theresa Warsecke led the way, finishing second with a time of 18:40.20. Fellow teammates junior Julia Pusateri and sophomore Deirdre Dwyer finished in seventh and tenth, respectively, with times of 19:17.60 and 19:26.30.

"I think we have some good talent in the group that raced but our strategy hurt us a little today," first-year head coach Linh Nguyen said. "It was really hot and our women went out with the leader for the first mile. She's an NCAA steeplechase qualifier and that early pace was too fast for our group. With the heat yesterday, that just led to a slow fade over the remainder of the race. I thought Theresa ran well to regroup and get second after being gapped at one point. They learned a lot and it will help them as we move forward in our training."

On the men's side, Nick Costello placed fourth with a time of 16:09.40 and sophomore Adam Bess placed ninth with a time of 16:28.80. Senior Trevin Flickinger finished 12th with a time of 16:54.90.

"I thought Nick Costello ran a very good race," Nguyen said. "He was with the three leaders for the majority of the race. As he gains more strength, he'll be able to finish that race and should be a big piece for us. The rest of the guys had a great effort as well and I think they are adjusting well to the training and are making a commitment to elevating the program. Overall, I was pleased with the men's race and where it puts us to start the season."

The cross country teams are back in action on Friday, Sept. 13 as they travel to the Mel Brodt Collegiate Meet in Bowling Green.
