TOLEDO, OH - The Toledo baseball program produced an outstanding showing in the classroom with a 3.176 cumulative GPA in the recently completed 2012 Spring semester. The 2012 Mid-American Conference West Division champion Rockets have now posted team grade-point averages above 3.0 in 14 of the 18 grading periods under Head Coach Cory Mee.

Twenty-four Rockets posted a 3.0 GPA or higher led by senior Ben Hammer, senior A.J. DeMarco and freshman Andrew Marra with perfect 4.0 marks. A two-time academic all-district recipient, Hammer has recorded an umblemished 4.0 GPA on six occasions at UT.

In addition to Hammer, DeMarco and Marra, eight others (senior Jeff Cola, senior Joe Corfman, senior Matt Delewski, junior Andy Mix, sophomore Zack Michael, sophomore James Miglin, sophomore Ryan Wilkinson, freshman Justin Hobart) earned a spot on the University's Dean's List (3.5 GPA or higher). Senior Matt Kuna, senior Mark Lapikas, senior Alex Radon, senior Kyle Shaw, junior Tyler Grogg, sophomore Cameron Palmer, redshirt freshman Adam Tyson, freshman Zach Kazmierski, freshman Nate Langhals, freshman Alec Schmenk, freshman Austin Schmidt, freshman Lucas Sokol and freshman Dan Zuchowski also registered a 3.0 GPA or higher.

The baseball program's performance was a part of the athletic department's successful spring semester which saw UT student-athletes earn a record GPA of 3.266, shattering the previous high mark of 3.167 set in the fall of 2011. It was the fourth time in the last five semesters that UT student-athletes have broken the GPA record but none of the previous increases were as dramatic as last semester.

The 3.266 GPA also marked the seventh consecutive semester that UT student-athletes have earned a combined GPA of 3.1 or higher, and the 12th time in the last 14 semesters above a 3.0. Additionally, 14 of UT's 15 sport programs had team GPAs of 3.0 or above, and every program had a team GPA of at least 2.9. It was the first time in school history that 14 varsity sports registered a team GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Individually, 26 student-athletes earned perfect 4.0 GPAs, including Hammer, DeMarco and Marra, while nearly 41 percent (133 of 327) earned a spot on the Dean's List by garnering at least a 3.50 GPA. Additionally, a record 70.9 percent of UT student-athletes achieved a 3.0 grade point average or better for the 2012 spring semester, the 17th consecutive semester in which at least half of Rocket student-athletes earned a 3.0+ GPA.

Women's volleyball had the highest team GPA for the second consecutive semester at 3.641, just beating out women's soccer (3.622). Men's tennis had the highest GPA for a men's team with 3.446.
