BOCA RATON, FL - Toledo put worth a dominating performance on the mound and at the plate, en route to capturing a 6-1 victory over Florida Atlantic on Saturday at FAU Stadium. With the win, the Rockets improve to 4-8 on the season.

Freshman RHP Kyle Slack (1-1) was brilliant in his third start of the spring on the hill to earn his first collegiate victory. Slack yielded only one run on five hits with four punchouts in 6.0 innings to snap the Owls' (9-6) four-game win streak.

Senior RHP Jared Locke came on in relief of Slack and retired all nine batters he faced to
close out the impressive road triumph and pick up his first collegiate save.

Slack and Locke kept FAU batters off balance all afternoon, limiting the home team to only two hits over the final 8.0 frames.

Offensively, junior LF Tyler Grogg experienced a game to remember, finishing a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs scored. Grogg has six hits and three runs scored in the first two contests this weekend.

The Midnight Blue & Gold also received multi-hit efforts from sophomore 3B Anthony Smith (3-for-5, 2 RBI), junior C James Miglin (2-for-5, RS), junior RF Jacob North (2-for-3, RS, RBI) and freshman 2B Deion Tansel (2-for-3, 2 RBI) to even the weekend series at one win each.

Toledo wasted little time in setting the tone in today's non-league matchup, scoring a run on a RBI single by Smith in its first at-bat.

Florida Atlantic retaliated with one run in the bottom of the first, before UT broke the game open with three tallies in the fourth frame. The Rockets took advantage of four hits, one walk and one hit by pitch to assume a 4-1 lead. The big hit in the fourth inning was a two-run, two-base hit off the bat of Tansel.

Toledo was still not done putting up good at-bats against a quartet of FAU hurlers, tacking on insurance runs in the sixth and the ninth innings to make the final score 6-1. North was credited with the first RBI on a double, while Smith collected a run-scoring single in UT's final at-bat to close out the win.

FAU's Jakes Meiers (1-2) was tagged with the loss, allowing four runs (all earned) on eight hits with two strikeouts in 4.0 innings. No Florida Atlantic hitter had more than one hit against the combination of Slack and Locke.

The Rockets and Owls will wrap up their three-game series tomorrow beginning at 1:00 p.m. Junior LHP Ryan Wilkinson will get the start on the mound in the series finale.
