Palmer and Smith Named to Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League All-Star Game
TOLEDO, OH - Junior RHP Cameron Palmer and sophomore 3B Anthony Smith were the two latest Rockets to garner all-star recognition in their respective summer baseball league. The duo was named to the mid-summer classic in the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League. Earlier this summer, senior RHP Jared Locke and sophomore SS Dan Zuchowski were selected to the Prospect League All-Star Game.
A member of the Stark County Terriers in the South Division, Palmer has tallied a 3-3 record on the hill with a 3.34 ERA in seven starts. He has accumulated 35.0 innings of work, allowing 17 runs (13 earned) on 31 hits with 40 strikeouts. The Canton, OH native currently sits fifth in the league in punchouts.
A teammate of Palmer with the Terriers, Smith is hitting .275 (33-for-120) with 19 runs scored, six doubles, two triples, five home runs and 19 RBI. He has appeared in 32 games and tallied nine walks.
In additional baseball news, former Rocket Jim Vahalik (2008-11) recently participated in the Frontier League's State Farm All-Star Game as a member of the London Rippers. Vahalik is currently batting .288 (49-for-170) with 21 runs scored, six two-base hits, two roundtrippers and 24 RBI. Teams were selected by eight representatives from each organization. Their votes were tallied and the first 24 players for each division were revealed.
