TOLEDO, OH - A number of Toledo baseball players set to return for the 2013 season will continue to sharpen their skills throughout this summer, joining teams for NCAA-sanctioned wood bat leagues. A total of 20 Rockets are slated to participate in various collegiate leagues from New York to Indiana, including eight players who will compete in the Great Lakes League.

Trever Gast (Southern Ohio Copperheads), Andrew Marra (Michigan Monarchs), Jacob North (Stark County Terriers), Cameron Palmer (Stark County Terriers), Alec Schmenk (Michigan Monarchs), Kyle Shaw (Stark County Terriers), Anthony Smith (Stark County Terriers) and Cody Umbright (Michigan Monarchs) are representing the Rockets in the GLSCL this summer. The league is set to begin this Friday, June 8.

The league has Ohio teams in Athens (Southern Ohio Copperheads), Canton (Stark County Terriers), Celina (Grand Lake Mariners), Cincinnati (Cincinnati Steam), Dayton (Dayton Docs), Hamilton (Hamilton Joes), Newark (Licking County Settlers), Spencerville (Lima Locos) and Xenia (Xenia Scouts), as well as a squad in Lexington, KY (Lexington Hustlers) and Carleton, MI (Lake Erie Monarchs).

Toledo also has players competing in the New York Collegiate League (Cory Finkler, Nate Langhals, Lucas Sokol), Tri-State League (Ben Hammer, Justin Hobart, Zack Michael), Valley League (Tyler Grogg, James Miglin), Prospect League (Jared Locke, Dan Zuchowski), Midwest Collegiate League (Ryan Wilkinson) and White Park 19 And Over League (Zach Kazmierski).

The Rockets are coming off a successful 2012 campaign which saw them claim their first Mid-American Conference West Division title in school history. UT's 19-8 (.704) MAC record equaled its best mark since the conference went to three-game series prior to the 2004 campaign.

Overall this spring, UT sported a 30-27 mark, registering its second 30-win season under Head Coach Cory Mee. The Rockets' 30 victories tied for sixth most in school history.

Toledo also secured a spot in the MAC Tournament for a school-record fourth-consecutive season and eighth time overall.
