TOLEDO, OH - Freshman SS Dan Zuchowski collected a team-high three RBI on Saturday afternoon to help Toledo (9-12, 1-1 MAC) even its Mid-American Conference series with Ohio (10-11, 1-1 MAC) with a 6-5 victory over the Bobcats at Scott Park.
Starter Matt Kuna (3-0) earned the victory for the Rockets, allowing three runs and scattering nine hits in 5.1 innings of work. UT's bullpen then went to work with freshman RHP Andrew Marra picking up his second save by recording the final out of the contest.
Ohio senior RHP Shane Cole (0-1) took the loss after allowing two runs and two hits in 2.0 innings of relief.
Sophomore C James Miglin started the Rockets' scoring by launching a homer over the center-field fence to lead off the second inning. Junior Jeff Cola followed with a triple to the right-center field gap before scoring on Zuchowski's single to right field.
The Bobcats answered right back though with three runs in the third, two on junior 1B Tyler Backstrom's two-run blast to right and one on senior RF Jensen Painter's solo shot to left.
UT then evened the score at 3-3 in the bottom of the third on senior 1B Mark Lapikas' deep sacrifice fly to center.
Zuchowski then put the Rockets ahead to stay in the fifth on Zuchowski's two-run single to right-center. UT added an insurance run in the eighth on Hammer's bunt single.
Painter made things interesting in the ninth with his second homer of the game. The Bobcats' next two batters reached base before Marra was able to close things out with a fly ball to left field.
The two teams will wrap up their three-game series on Sunday, March 25. First pitch from Scott Park is set for 1:05 p.m.
