Tracy Mauntler returns for her ninth season as Toledo’s head coach for women’s tennis, aiming to continue her team's rise in the Mid-American Conference. Since coming to UT, Mauntler has improved the program from eighth place in 2002-03 to a third place finish in 2008, setting a school-record for wins, and making a pair of MAC Tournament Semifinal appearances in 2007 and 2009.

The Rockets finished the 2009-10 season with a 12-7 record (5-4 MAC) and a fourth seed in the MAC tournament. Last year's senior class finished their careers with 56 match victories, the most of any four-year class in program history, led by First-Team All-MAC honoree Martina Wodzinski and Second-Team All-MAC Maha Guirguis.

The 2008-09 campaign saw the fifth-seeded Rockets go 14-10, with Maha Guirguis earning All-MAC first team honors, Martina Wodzinski be named to the All-MAC Tournament team and Jenny Belsky concluding her UT career with Academic All-MAC recognition. The Rockets enjoyed a six-match winning streak in the middle of the season.

The 2007-08 came to a close in the MAC Tournament quarterfinals, but the Rockets finished with a 13-6 mark, including a victory over archrival Bowling Green, which was ranked No. 56 nationally. The challenging schedule also featured matches against ranked opponents in Ohio State and Western Michigan. In the fall, Mauntler had three players go to the ITA Regionals, where the Rockets had their best finish ever. The Midnight Blue and Gold was represented by the No. 15-ranked team of Martina Wodzinski and Maha Guirguis, and Ashley Frey, who advanced to the singles main draw.

UT finished the 2006-07 campaign 16-6 overall and 7-3 in the MAC. En-route to the third-place finish, Toledo beat Miami for the first time ever and Ball State and Eastern Michigan each for the second straight year. At the MAC Championships, Toledo made it to the semifinals, losing to Buffalo, 4-1. Mauntler coached Martina Wodzinski to Newcomer of the Year and second-team All-MAC, and Myriam Cueva to first-team All-MAC.

In 2006, Mauntler coached the Rockets to a fourth place MAC finish with a record of 5-3 (14-7 overall), tying Eastern Michigan. During the climb to the MAC Championships, the Rockets beat Ball State and Eastern Michigan, which they hadn’t done in over 10 years. The doubles team of Myriam Cueva and Eunice Paravicini were undefeated at No. 1 doubles in the MAC and also both recieved second-team All-MAC honors. In the 2005 fall season, Mauntler sent three players to the ITA Regionals, led by Eunice Paravicini advancing to the main draw.

In her rookie campaign, Mauntler guided the Rockets to an appearance in the Mid-American Conference Championship quarterfinals. She had the Midnight Blue and Gold playing its best tennis at the end of the season, winning three of its final four matches, including a 4-2 victory over Buffalo in the opening round of the MAC Championships.

Not only have Mauntler’s teams done well on the courts, but they have excelled in the classroom too. In the fall of 2008, the team posted a 3.669 cumulative GPA, which ranks as the third-highest in he athletic department's history.

"My goals for the players extend beyond the court," Mauntler said. "I want them to learn and grow as individuals throughout their college experience. We participate in many different community service projects, where this year we have started working with the Kids Unlimited program and the Englewood Peace Academy in Toledo. We help inner-city kids in three main areas; academics, character development and self-discipline, to hopefully help them become a contributing member of their society. I believe that these experiences help give the athletes a well-rounded college experience."

Mauntler also has a successful past that has helped her bring that to Toledo.

The Clearfield, PA native came to Toledo following two-plus years as a sixth-grade social studies teacher in the Harford County (MD) public school district. She was also the head varsity tennis coach for the boys’ and girls’ high school tennis teams in Hartford.

Mauntler was a four-year standout at Bucknell University. She served as team captain during the 1999-2000 season and received the "Coaches Award" in 1999 and the "Leadership Award" in 2000. Mauntler helped lead the Bisons to the conference finals in her sophomore and junior years. She graduated in May 2000 with a bachelor’s degree in education with a concentration in counseling. She returned to her alma mater in August 2000 to complete her teaching certification, and served as assistant women’s tennis coach for the 2000-01 season.

Mauntler has been involved with tennis at many different levels for the past ten years. During the summer of 2000-02, she directed the junior camp for Tennis Camps Ltd. at Swarthmore College. From 2003-04, she assumed the position of assistant camp director where she was primarily responsible for the adult camps. Mauntler, a USPTA certified professional since 1999, was also a board member of the Harford County Tennis Association where she was involved with marketing tennis programs to the community. For the past three summers, Mauntler worked at Ed Krass’s College Tennis Academy at Brown and Leigh University.

Mauntler has recently joined with community leaders to establish a Community Service Tennis (CTA) in Toledo. This community tennis association serves adults and youths of Toledo by offering them no-cost tennis instruction.

She is currently working on a master’s degree in recreation and leisure from UT. Mauntler, formerly Tracy Honko, was married to the UT men’s golf coach Jamie Mauntler in Aruba in January ‘07. The two currently reside in Toledo with their son Jace (born in July 2009) and their Boston terrier, Zeke.
