DeKalb, IL - The Toledo women's tennis team came up short in its quest for a Mid-American Conference title, as it was edged out by Ball State in the conference tournament's opening round on Thursday, April 26 at Northern Illinois. The outcome is the exact opposite of the first time these teams faced off back on March 31, when UT pulled out a 4-3 win at home.

The Rockets' 2012 campaign ends with an overall mark of 9-13, with a 2-6 record in regular-season conference play.

Playing in her final match as a Rocket, senior Kelsey Anonsen went 1-1. Teaming with Lexy Pitt in No. 1 doubles, they defeated BSU's Wild/Rang duo, 8-1. Anonsen fell to Wild in No. 1 singles, however, losing 7-5, 7-5. On the season, the senior produced a 20-11 mark in the top singles flight.

UT earned all three of its points in singles play, picking up wins in singles matches Nos. 2, 3 and 4. Pia Rygh won her No. 2 singles matchup against BSU's Sanders in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4, ending her season with an individual record of 15-8. Similarly, Amanda Border topped Rang in fifth-singles, 7-5, 6-0, improving her season mark to 20-9. Chrissy Coffman, in possession of the squad's best season-record at 26-10, won over the Cardinals' Johnson in No. 3 singles, 6-3, 6-2.

Lexy Pitt battled BSU's Hebble in fourth-singles, but fell a tad short in a three-set No. 4 singles contest, 4-6, 6-1, 7-6(2). Her season record finishes at 15-13.

The team shows great promise moving forward, as it will return five of six players currently on the roster. It will look forward to playing at full-strength next season, as the majority of the 2011-12 campaign was played with only five players. Without enough bodies to fill all six lineup spots, the Rockets gave its opposition automatic points in No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles.

"I'm proud of my team and our accomplishment this season," said head coach Tracy Mauntler. "I believe that we grew as a team and learned a lot about battling through adversity. We will be better because of what we went through this season."
