TOLEDO, OH – The Toledo men’s tennis team released its 2014-15 schedule on Monday. The Rockets’ slate will features matches against two teams ranked in the top 15 of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings. UT will face No. 5 Ohio State and No. 11 Illinois, as well as two other Big Ten teams.

“We’ve upgraded our schedule again this year in anticipation of a more experienced team that thrives on challenges,” Wermer said. “The highlights, aside from the spring conference matches, will be the fall $10,000 Futures Pro Event and non-conference duals against Illinois, Ohio State, Michigan State, Louisville and Indiana.”

UT will open its fall schedule on Friday-Sunday, Sept. 19-21 at the Purdue Invitational, before hosting its annual UT Rocket Invitational on Friday-Sunday, Oct. 10-12. The Rockets will then close out the fall at the USTA Futures $10,000 on Friday-Wednesday, Nov. 7-12.

Following winter break, Toledo will begin its dual meet slate with an away match at Detroit on Sunday, Jan. 18 before traveling to Champaign, IL to take on the Fighting Illini on Friday, Jan. 23. The following day, UT will hold its first home match as it welcomes Valparaiso to Shadow Valley Tennis Club.

On Sunday, Jan. 25, the Rockets will make the trek to Columbus to take on Ohio State. The Buckeyes are the nine-time defending Big Ten champions and advanced to the ‘Round of Eight’ in last year’s NCAA Championships.

After away matches vs. Xavier and Michigan State, Toledo will be home for five consecutive contests, concluding against Wayne State on Saturday, Feb. 7.

The Rockets will commence Mid-American Conference play on Friday, March 27 with a home dual match against defending champion Ball State, followed by an away match at Binghamton (April 3), home matches against Northern Illinois (April 11) and Buffalo (April 12), and an away contest at Western Michigan (April 17).

UT will be led by 2014 MAC Newcomer of the Year and first-team All-MAC selection Stjepan Sisko, who compiled a 15-8 (4-0 MAC) ledger in dual match play last season. Second-team All-MAC selection Mark Singnil, senior Nicky Wong and juniors Garrett Cona and Ryan Jorgensen also return and will look to strengthen the lineup after falling to MAC runner-up WMU in the conference tournament last year.

Northern Illinois will host this year’s MAC Championships on Friday-Saturday, April 24-25.
