Two Rockets Honored With Academic All-MAC Awards
TOLEDO, OH - Senior Ben Brocker was named to the 2014 Men’s Tennis Academic All- Mid-American Conference Team, the league office announced on Tuesday.
Sophomore Ryan Jorgensen was also named to the honorable mention conference all-academic team.
“We all kept saying that we’re going to miss Benny in our program, but I don’t think his loss will hit us until we start hitting the hard times next year,” head coach Al Wermer said. “He set an incredible example of focus and positivity for our guys, both on and off the court. It’s great to see Ryan and Ben recognized by the MAC for their academic success.”
Brocker, a native of Poland, OH, finished his collegiate career with a 3.90 cumulative GPA in chemistry and went 4-7 in his final year of competition with the Midnight Blue & Gold, including a three-set victory in No. 6 singles at Ball State which helped secured a Toledo victory over the eventual MAC Champion Cardinals. He also recorded two wins in doubles play.
Jorgensen went 5-11 on the year with a 1-1 record in MAC play, with four more wins coming in doubles. The Toledo native earned an impressive victory against MAC runner-up Buffalo in No. 4 singles on Sunday, March 23.
