Toledo, OH - The Toledo softball team will travel to Akron, OH this week to compete in the 2012 Mid-American Conference softball tournament at Akron's Firestone Stadium. With its opening-round matchup against No. 5 seed Western Michigan on Wednesday, May 9, at 11 a.m., eighth-seeded UT is playing in the conference tournament for the first time since 1997.

Giving evidence that the program is making a comeback under third-year head coach Tarrah Beyster and her staff, the Rockets (18-36, 8-14 MAC) won more games this season than they have the previous three seasons combined (16). Their total of eight MAC wins is also a program high since 1997.

Losing the last four games of the regular-season, Toledo will face off against the WMU Broncos, with whom it split a double-header on Friday, April 27. Toledo won the opening contest 2-1, but lost the second game 11-3. WMU is entering the contest following a two-game sweep of Northern Illinois, winning 5-3 and 4-2 this past weekend.

Should the Rockets win their first game, they will advance to play against No. 4 Ohio at 5 p.m. on Wednesday night.
