Michael Campbell is in his second year as an assistant track and field coach with Toledo, working with the sprinters and hurdlers.

Prior to joining the Rockets, Campbell coached at the high school level for 10 years, at local Sylvania Southview High School and Notre Dame Academy. He served as the men's sprint coach at Southview from 2001-05 before assuming head girls coach responsibilities from 2005-08. He then took over as the girls sprint and jumps coach at Notre Dame from 2009-11. Over the course of his high school coaching career, Campbell helped lead his teams to six city championships, three district championships and one regional championship. Numerous athletes received all-state honors in track and field under his tutelage, including one state champion. He has also served as a summer track coach for the High Velocity Track (USATF) track program, as well as the Toledo Alive summer track program.

Campbell's experience in track and field isn't limited to coaching, as he was a standout athlete in his own right at the high school and college levels. He was a two-time triple jump champion at Olivet College, where he was also the starting point guard on the basketball team, from 1978-80 before transferring to Michigan State University. He also competed on the track and field team at MSU.

Campbell graduated from Michigan State in 1982 with bachelor's degree in Communications. He has two twin sons, Michael and Malcolm, and one daughter, Breanna, all of whom he had the opportunity of coaching in high school. He resides in Sylvania Township.
