One of the most decorated athletes in University of Toledo history, American record-holder Briana Shook joins Kevin Hadsell's staff as an assistant distance coach. Shook will be in charge of coordinating recruiting, academics and team travel for both cross country and track programs.

Shook graduated from UT in 2004 with a degree in communications and photography. She was a three-time All-American in track and cross country, and was recognized nationally for her academic acheivements. Over the course of her career at Toledo, Shook won 11 Mid-American Conference titles and had three runner-up finishes, as well. She helped lead the Rockets to back-to-back MAC cross country titles and was the 2002 NCAA Great Lakes Region Cross Country Runner of the Year. In 2004, Shook was named NCAA Great Lakes Region Track and Field Athlete of the Year.

During the summer of 2004, Shook made history by regaining her American record in the 3000m steeplechase with her 9:29.32 clocking in Belgium. She has also ran personal-best times of 4:21(1500m),16:08(5000m) and 33:50(10,000m). Regarded as one of the top female distance runners in America, Shook's time in the 3000m steeplechase is the fourth-ranked time in the world for 2004, and ranks sixth all-time.
