WILLIAMSBURG, VA - Toledo moved up three spots and finished in fourth place in Tuesday's third and final round of William and Mary's C&F Bank Intercollegiate. The tournament was played on the River Course at Kingsmill Resort.
The Rockets, who registered four rounds in the 70s to tie their season best with a 302, were led by sophomore Kate Hoops' two-over par 73. Freshman Stephanie St-Jean was one stroke behind Hoops with her second-straight three-over par 74 followed by senior Georgina Hunt's five-over par 76 and senior Piyathida Chaiyapan's eight-over par 79.
"Today was one of the most exciting days I've had as a coach," Toledo Head Coach Nicole Hollingsworth said. "We came up just a little short of winning but we had a great effort with the second-best round of the day and tying our best round of the year."
Chaiyapan led UT in the individual standings with a sixth-place tie at 15-over par 228 (72-77-79) with Hoops (T-13th/78-79-73=230) and St-Jean (T-16th/84-74-74=232) registering Top 20 showings. Hunt tied for 25th place at 22-over par 235 (75-84-76), while freshman Jennifer Elsholz tied for 76th place at 42-over par 255 (87-84-84).
Longwood captured the team title at 60-over par 912 (300-303-309), 10 strokes ahead of St. John's (902). The Lancers' Kameron Carter earned medalist honors at eight-over par 221 (71-74-76).
Toledo will be idle for the next two weekends before returning to action at EKU's Colonel Classic on Friday and Saturday, April 6-7.
