Jennifer Elsholz and Kate Hoops Named NGCA All-American Scholars
TOLEDO, OH — Junior Jennifer Elsholz (Grand Rapids, MI) and senior Kate Hoops (Lima, OH) have each been named to the 2013-14 National Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar Team. The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent of all college athletics. The minimum cumulative GPA is 3.50 and student-athletes must have competed in at least 50% (Division I) or 66% (Division II & III) of the college’s regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year.
“I’m very happy for Jennifer and Kate,” Mid-American Coach of the Year Nicole Hollingsworth said. “They have both done a very good job in the classroom as well as on the golf course.”
Elsholz, who possesses a 3.54 grade-point average in psychology, ranked third on the team with a 76.9 stroke average and tied for sixth place at the Mid-American Conference Championship to help UT to a second-place showing. Elsholz matched her career-best showing with a third-place tie at the Rocket Classic where she carded season-low 224 (74-74-76) and recorded a one-under par 71 at the Central District Invitational for her best round of the season.
Hoops, who graduated this past spring with a 3.85 GPA in early childhood education, posted a 77.8 stroke average and equaled her career-best finish by tying for third place with a career-best tying three-over 219 (74-73-72) at the Redbird Invitational. Her other top showing this season was tying for seventh place with a 154 (79-75) at The Preview.
