Lani Ernst and Emily Anderson Honored With MAC Player of the Week Awards
TOLEDO, OH - Senior Lani Ernst and freshman Emily Anderson were each honored by the Mid-American Conference on Monday, as the league office announced Ernst was named MAC West Co-Player of the Week and Anderson was named MAC West Pitcher of the Week.
Ernst racked up a .538 batting average in her five games from the past week, recording three multi-hit games for a total of seven hits (1.4 per game). Ernst also scored six runs, including a three-run effort on Wednesday against Oakland in which she went 2-for-2 with a triple and two RBI.
She had multiple RBI games in game two against Eastern Michigan on Friday and against Central Michigan on Saturday. She now leads the team in runs scored (36), walks (28), on base percentage (.449), and is tied for the team lead in RBI (30).
Ernst also recorded her third home run of the year in a four-HR effort by the Rockets against CMU and this is her second time this season she has earned MAC West Player of the Week honors.
Anderson went 3-1 over the weekend, earning a win over Eastern Michigan and two over Central Michigan.
Her best outing came in a 9-1 Toledo victory on Saturday against the Chippewas, where she pitched five innings and allowed just a single hit with three strikeouts. Anderson also shut out CMU on Sunday, allowing just four hits with five more strikeouts.
She fanned a total of 23 batters this weekend (5.75 per game) with 16 hits in four games (4 per game). The strikeouts bring her total to 220 on the year in 232.1 innings pitched.
The Rockets conclude their home schedule Wednesday with a non-league doubleheader at Scott Park against Youngstown State. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
