TOLEDO, OH — Sophomore Otto Black has earned Mid-American Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week after winning his first tournament as a Rocket.

Black won his first collegiate title on Tuesday at Ball State’s Earl Yestingsmeier Memorial Invitational to lead the Rockets to their first tournament crown of the season. Black, who matched his career bests with three-under par 67s in each of the first two rounds on Monday, finished with a career-low one-under par 209 to win the tournament by five strokes.

Black also tied for 26th place at six-over par 222 (79-71-72) at Purdue’s Boilermaker Invitational in a field that included six teams ranked in Golfstat’s Top 50. He rebounded from an opening round 79 by playing his final two rounds at one-under par 143 (71-72).

Toledo is idle until Friday-Sunday, May 2-4 when it hosts the 2014 Mid-American Conference Men’s Golf Championship at Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel, IN.
