Rockets To Be Broadcast Live On BCSN; Home For Four Games This Weekend
TOLEDO, OH – The University of Toledo softball team will begin a six-game home stretch with four games this weekend against Mid-American Conference West foes at Scott Park. The Rockets (16-31, 6-10 MAC) will host a doubleheader on Friday, April 25 (1:00 p.m.) against Eastern Michigan and single games Saturday, April 26 (2:00 p.m.) and Sunday, April 27 (1:00 p.m.) against Central Michigan.
In addition, Saturday’s Breast Cancer Awareness game against the Chippewas is slated to be broadcast live on BCSN, and Sunday is senior day, honoring Lani Ernst, Erinn Wright and Allison Beard.
Toledo won its previous outing, defeating Oakland 8-6 in a non-league matchup on Wednesday, April 23. The Rockets combined for 15 hits in the game, including a 3-for-5 effort from sophomore LF Jessica Lemieux.
Lemieux leads the team in hits (60), total bases (77) and stolen bases (22), and is second in batting average (.370) behind only freshman 2B Chandler Rice (.386). Lemieux’s 60 hits lead the MAC, and Rice sits fourth in conference batting average.
The Rockets are also receiving strong production from Ernst, who is the team leader in slugging percentage (.505), on base percentage (.439), runs scored (33), doubles (13), and walks (26). Ernst (25 RBI) combines Wright (28 RBI) to produce a solid 3-4 spot in the Toledo lineup.
In the circle, freshman P Emily Anderson has recorded 13 wins (13-17) and an outstanding 197 strikeouts in 206.2 innings pitched. Anderson is first in the conference in innings pitching and second in the MAC in strikeouts, with a conference-leading 22 complete games.
Sophomore Sammy Emery also posted her first career victory against the Golden Grizzlies on Wednesday, pitching a complete game and getting through a bases-loaded jam in the final inning to secure the win.
Eastern Michigan holds a .225 team batting average and 5.28 earned run average, both 12th in the league, as they hold a 10-30 overall record (1-11 MAC).
The Eagles are led by sophomore Abby Davidson offensively, with a .306 batting average and 34 hits in 111 at bats and senior Amanda Stanton, who leads EMU with two home runs and 20 RBI with a .241 batting average.
Defensively, junior Lindsay Rich leads the team in wins with four (4-13), with a 5.26 ERA in 121.0 innings pitched. Freshman Alyssa Huntley has racked up three wins and 28 strikeouts in 19 appearances this season.
The Eagles defeated Northern Illinois 4-3 in eight innings in its last game, ending an eight-game losing streak.
Central Michigan holds a 29-15 record, with a 7-5 ledger in conference play, good for second in the MAC West division. The Chippewas have the second best earned run average in the conference (2.69) led by freshman Rachael Knapp’s 1.84 ERA and 10-2 overall record. Seniors Morgan Yuncker and Chelsea Sundberg have each recorded nine wins as well.
On the offensive side of the ball, two players have compiled a batting average above .300, led by junior Trista Cox (.356). Cox also leads the team in RBI (29), hits (48), slugging percentage (.637) and runs (26), and is tied for the team lead in home runs (9) with sophomore Chelsea DeLamielleure.
The Chippewas were victorious in their previous outing, defeating Michigan State in East Lansing, 6-4.
