Rockets to Take on Buffalo in Opening Round of MAC Tournament
TOLEDO, OH – The Toledo women’s tennis team will meet Buffalo on Friday, April 25 as the top teams meet in the first round of the 2014 MAC Tournament in Oxford, OH. The match is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m.
The winner of Friday’s match will take on No. 1 seed Miami on Saturday, April 26 at 10:00 a.m.
The Rockets (14-6, 5-3 MAC) fell to Buffalo 4-3 in their meeting on Saturday, March 22, as Toledo was played even in singles competition, but was unable to come back from losing the doubles point.
Toledo is paced by three players with at least 10 wins, as junior Lexy Pitt led the way with a 16-3 record, sophomore Emily Mazzola went 11-6, senior Chrissy Coffman went 11-9 and sophomore Katelyn Nguyen posted a 10-10 record.
With 11 wins, Coffman became the all-time wins leader in Toledo history with 85 singles victories, besting the previous mark of 84 set in 2011 by former Rocket Ashley Frey.
In doubles play, the Rockets combined to produce a 36-23 overall record, with three teams that each won at least 11 matches. Mazzola and Pitt led the way with a 13-7 record, while sophomore Mackenzie Bowman and freshman Lauren Thai went 12-8 and Nguyen teamed up with junior Pia Rygh for an 11-8 ledger.
The Rockets are seeking their first conference championship in program history. In the 34-year history of Toledo women’s tennis, the highest finish for the Rockets was third during the 2007-08 season.
