Rockets Travel To Columbus For Two-Day Jesse Owens Classic

TOLEDO, OH – The Toledo women’s track and field team returns to action on Friday following a two-week hiatus, when the Rockets travel to Columbus for the Jesse Owens Classic. Events begin at 4:00 p.m. Friday, April 18 and continue on Saturday, April 19 starting at 10:00 a.m.

The meet will feature individuals from more than 35 colleges competing in the two-day event, including fellow Mid-American Conference members Miami, Kent State, Ohio and Eastern Michigan.

Toledo last competed on Saturday, April 5 at the Cherry Blossom Invite hosted by Ohio University.

The Rockets earned five event victories on the day, including a dominating performance in the 1,500-meter run, taking six of the top 10 spots.

Junior Liz Weiler led the way, winning the event with a time of 4:27.53, while classmate Mackenzie Chojnacky was runner-up with a time of 4:31.06. Both times were personal records. Juniors Brooke Tullis and Priscilla Timmons, sophomore Maja Pacaric and senior Kristal Studer rounded out the top 10 in the event.

Senior Amber Brown took home a victory in the 100-meter dash, running a time of 12.15, and she also finished sixth in the 200-meter dash (25.87).

Brown was also a part of the 4x100 meter relay team that finished second. Brown teamed up with sophomore Akili Barnes, senior Jillian Sledge and sophomore Lexis Williams, finishing in a time of 47.95.

Barnes, freshman Natalie Camardo and sophomore Theresa Warsecke each posted their own individual runner-up finishes as well, in the 400-meter hurdles, 5,000-meter run and 800-meter run, respectively.

Also in the 5K, the Rockets saw sophomore Deirdre Dwyer finish fourth, junior Megan Csehi place fifth and senior Elizabeth Lemon finish sixth.

In her 3,000-meter steeplechase debut, freshman Janelle Noe won with a Mid-American Conference auto bid time of 11:03.22. Sophomore Lindsey Burdette finished in third, while posting a time of 11:30.84.

In the field events, freshman Alexa Jarrett earned her first collegiate victory, posting 3.35 meters in the pole vault. Junior Carly Molls placed first in the javelin with a winning throw of 41.63 meters, while sophomore Allie Missler posted a distance of 38.15 meters to finish third.

The Jesse Owens Classic will be broadcast on the Big Ten Network on Sunday, April 27 at 3:00 p.m. and once again Monday, April 28 at 2:00 p.m. Live results will be available via throughout the meet.

Following this weekend, the Rockets will compete in the two-day Hillsdale GINA Relays, beginning on Friday, April 25.
