Sophomore Emily Mazzola earned a 6-2, 7-6 singles victory on Sunday against Detroit.

TOLEDO, OH - Coming off a big win against UIC on Saturday, the Rockets were unable to win back-to-back matches, losing to Detroit 5-2 on Sunday at Shadow Valley Tennis Club.

Toledo falls to 3-3 on the season.

“This was an extremely competitive match and a great battle, but unfortunately we didn’t win the big points,” head coach Tracy Mauntler said. “I was happy with the fight we had after dropping the doubles point. We continue to improve and look forward to getting back to practice this week.”

The Rockets lost the doubles point, but earned a doubles victory in the No. 3 spot as freshman Lauren Thai and sophomore Mackenzie Bowman won 6-4.

Sophomore Emily Mazzola and senior Chrissy Coffman posted the team’s only other wins on the day. Mazzola improved to 3-3 in singles play, earning a tough 6-2, 7-6 victory in No. 4 singles, while Coffman won in straight sets in the No. 1 spot.

Toledo will go on the road to Fort Wayne, IN for two matches next weekend when it faces IPFW on Friday, Feb. 14 and Bradley the following day.
