Julius Brown Again Named MAC West Division Player of Week
Toledo, OH - Junior guard Julius Brown has been named the Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday. It is the second consecutive week Brown has received the weekly award.
A Markham, IL native, Brown led Toledo to four victories last week to extend the Rockets’ record to 6-0 for its best start in 15 years. He averaged 15.8 ppg, 7.0 apg and shot 43.8 percent (7-of-16) from three-point range and 92.3 percent (24-of-26) from the charity stripe.
Brown opened the week by dishing out 18 points and 11 assists in Monday’s 79-69 home win over Florida A&M. He then matched his season high with 23 points and collected eight assists in Friday’s 103-99 victory over reigning America East champion Stony Brook on Friday in UT’s first game at the 2K Sports Classic Subregional in Detroit.
Brown followed that stellar performance by capping off an amazing 19-point second-half comeback against the host Titans on Saturday. Brown evened the score at 77-77 with a tip-in and then gave UT an 80-78 victory with a three-point play with four seconds remaining. He capped off the weekend with 12 points and four assists in Sunday’s 94-74 win over Florida Atlantic.
For the week, Brown directed UT’s offense to an 89.0 scoring average and a 48.5 field-goal percentage.
Toledo (6-0) will now take this week off before returning to action on Wednesday, Dec. 4 with a rematch against Detroit. Tip-off time is set for 7:00 p.m.
