Rockets Close Out Fall Schedule at ITA Midwest Regionals
ANN ARBOR, MI - The UT women's tennis team continued their strong performance this fall at the ITA Midwest Regionals this weekend in Ann Arbor, MI. The event was hosted by the University of Michigan with the winners of each draw receiving a berth to the ITA National Indoor Championships in Charlottesville, VA in February.
Senior Chrissy Coffman again led the way for the Rockets, extending her singles unbeaten streak to 12 before suffering her first setback of the season. On Friday, Coffman lost her first set to Jarret Fisher of DePaul, but rallied back to win and earn a spot in the main draw. After claiming the first set to Lok Sze Leung of Northwestern, she lost the final two.
"I'm so proud of Chrissy and what she has accomplished this fall," head coach Tracy Mauntler said. "Winning three singles titles and qualifying for the main draw at ITA's is quite an accomplishment. She will take this confidence into our main season this coming winter."
In doubles play, sophomores Mackenzie Bowman and Emily Mazzola teamed up to win their first round matchup against Northern Illinois after getting in a 4-1 hole. The duo lost in the second round of the main doubles draw to Notre Dame Saturday.
"Mackenzie and Emily did a great job coming back after a slow start against NIU," Mauntler said. "They continued to play tough against Notre Dame and I was impressed at how well they meshed with each other after only playing together for a week."
The Rockets open up their winter schedule on Friday, Jan. 17 at Cincinnati.
