Rockets Downed By UC-Davis in North Harbour Marriott Challenge Finale, 3-0
PORTLAND, OR – Toledo (5-5) concluded its weekend on the West Coast on Saturday with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-21) setback to UC-Davis (6-6) at Portland’s North Harbour Marriott Challenge.
Senior outside hitters Jordan Kielty and Lauren Rafdal paced the Rockets with eight kills apiece, while senior MB Dakota Harkins tallied seven terminations and a team-high .389 attack percentage.
Harkins also topped UT defensive at the net with four blocks and was rewarded for her play with a berth on the all-tournament team. Freshman libero Ellen Hays paced the Rockets’ back-row efforts with a match-best 17 digs.
Freshman OH Kaylin Squyres and junior MB Victoria Lee tied for team kill honors for the Aggies with 11 kills apiece with Lee tallying an impressive .579 hitting mark.
The Rockets were tied at 11-11 in Set 1 until the Aggies scored six straight points to take command. UC-Davis produced a similar spurt in Set 2 with a 9-1 run to take a 17-9 advantage. UT held a 20-19 lead in the final set, but the Aggies scored six of the next seven points to close out the match.
Toledo is back in action next weekend when it travels to Indianapolis, IN for the Butler Invitational on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 20-21.
