TOLEDO, OH – The University of Toledo women’s tennis team will begin its 2013 season Friday, Sept. 13 as it hosts the two-day Rocket Invitational. The other schools lined up to compete on the UT Varsity Tennis Courts are Detroit, Duquesne and IPFW.

“It’ll be exciting to kick off our fall season at home this year,” head coach Tracy Mauntler said. “The players always look forward to this event and it’s just a little earlier this year.  I’ve been happy with the effort and focus at practice so far, and this tournament will be a great indicator of how hard the players worked over the summer.”

The Rocket Invitational is played as a hidden dual format with matches scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. on both Friday and Saturday. Each player or duo that wins a best-of-three match will earn a point for their team. Flight winners will be recognized at all six singles positions and all three doubles positions.

The Rockets return six letterwinners from last season, including senior Chrissy Coffman (11-10 singles record) and juniors Lexy Pitt (4-12 singles, 9-12 doubles) and Pia Rygh (8-13 singles, 9-10 doubles). The Midnight Blue & Gold will also welcome two newcomers, freshmen Bianca Avram and Kayleigh Hall.

Toledo continues its fall schedule next weekend in Bowling Green at the BGSU Invitational.
