Rockets to Hold Fourth-Annual Blue-Gold Match on Friday
TOLEDO, OH — The Toledo women’s volleyball program will hold its fourth-annual Blue-Gold match on Friday, Aug. 23 at 7:00 p.m. in Savage Arena. Admission is free for the event with $500 in free books being given away to a UT student.
“We’ve made a lot of progress during our two-a-days and have had a lot of energy on the court,” Toledo Head Coach Greg Smith said. “We’re still developing as a team, and I like the direction we’re headed. Our Blue-Gold match will be good preparation for our opening weekend with live referees and line judges. It will also be a good way for our freshmen to get any jitters out.”
The Rockets are returning eight letterwinners as well as all six starters from last year’s squad, including senior MB Dakota Harkins who earned second-team All-Mid-American Conference honors last year. Harkins ranked fourth in the MAC with 1.06 blocks per set and sixth with a .296 attack mark. UT’s returning starters also include seniors Jordan Kielty, Adria Pryor, Lauren Rafdal, Becca Reidy and junior Brooke Frazer.
Toledo opens its 2013 season on Friday, Aug. 30 when it hosts Marist at Noon and Loyola (IL) at 7:00 p.m. in Savage Arena on the first day of the Blue-Gold Invitational. The Rockets will also entertain Eastern Illinois on Saturday, Aug. 31 at 7:00 p.m. and West Virginia on Sunday, Sept. 1 at 2:00 p.m.
UT begins its 2013 MAC campaign on Friday. Sept. 27 with a trip to Mt. Pleasant, MI to face Central Michigan.
