Jermaine Robinson, Danny Farr Invited to NFL Rookie Mini-Camps
TOLEDO - A pair of former Toledo Rockets have been invited to NFL rookie mini-camps. Safety Jermaine Robinson will report to the New Orleans Saints, while defensive lineman Danny Farr will try out for the San Francisco 49ers. Both will attend rookie mini-camps the weekend of May 10-12.
Robinson, a 6-3, 188-pound native of Pittsburgh, PA, was a four-year starter for the Rockets at safety, earning first-team All-MAC honors as a senior. He had 229 tackles and eight interceptions in his career. He was co-leader in the MAC with four picks in 2012. If Robinson makes the Saints, he will join former Rocket wide receiver Lance Moore in New Orleans.
"I'm excited that I get a chance to prove myself," said Robinson. "Any opportunity is a good opportunity, but I like the schemes that their new defensive coordinator (Rob Ryan) used with the Cowboys. It went well for (former Rocket safety) Barry Church there so it coudl be good for me, too."
Farr, a 6-5, 295-pound defensive tackle from Evanston, IL, was a starter as senior before a mid-season injured ended his season. He had 18 tackles and three tackles for loss in six games.
"I'm blessed to have this opportunity," said Farr. "All I've ever wanted is a chance to prove myself at the next level, and now I have that chance."
Robinson and Farr are among five former Rockets who will have a chance to make an NFL team this off-season. Linebacker Dan Molls signed a free-agent contract with San Diego, while defensive end T.J. Fatinikun will try out with Kansas City. Wide receiver Eric Page, who left UT following his junior season in 2011, signed with Tampa Bay last month.
