Rockets Claim First Place in Five Events on Second Day of Competition at "GINA" Relays

HILLSDALE, Mich. - Toledo turned out an impressive showing on the second day of competition at the Hillsdale "GINA" Relays with five top-finishers on Friday. Freshman sprinter Lexis Williams (Toledo, Ohio) led the Rockets, sweeping the 100-meter and 200-meter dash open events.

Senior long jumpers Kiah Douglas (Saginaw, Mich.) and Katie Bollin (Temperance, Mich.) finished one-two with leaps of 18-10 and 18.3.75, respectively. Senior Ksenia Kraitchkova (Sylvania, Ohio) placed 10th in the long jump with a distance of 17-2.25.

The Midnight Blue & Gold continued to pour in first-place times, with freshman Akili Barnes (Cincinnati, Ohio) clocking in at 14.99 in 100-meter hurdles. Distance runner Theresa Warsecke (Benzonia, Mich.), another freshman, claimed the 800-meter run open with a final mark of 2:14.03.

Four championship events were held later in the day, including the 3,000-meter steeplechase, 1,500-meter run, 5,000-meter run and 10,000-meter run. Sophomore Mackenzie Chojnacky (Jerome, Idaho) ran the steeple in 10:45.92, putting her in fifth place, while senior Kaylin Belair (Monroe, Mich.) also recorded a fifth-place time of 36:00 in the 10,000-meter while running attached.

Junior Kristal Studer (Bright, Ind.) ran 19th in the 5,000 at 17:24, while junior Megan Wright (Miamisburg, Ohio) finished 22nd overall in the 1,500 with a time of 4:39.01. 

The third and final day of competition gets underway on Saturday with field events at 10:00 a.m. and running events at 1:00 p.m.
