Rian Pearson Named MAC West Division Player of Week for Fifth Time This Season
Toledo, OH - Junior guard Rian Pearson has been named the Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday. Pearson is being honored for a MAC-best fifth time this season and eighth occasion in his career.
A Raytown, MO native, Pearson registered his third double-double in his last four games in UT's 79-66 win over McNeese State to propel Toledo to its seventh victory in its last eight games. He tallied a game-high 21 points and 11 rebounds against the Cowboys to go along with three assists and one steal in 32 minutes.
Pearson was consistent in both halves, tallying 10 points and five rebounds in the opening 20 minutes before notching 11 points and six boards in the second stanza. He scored UT's final six points in the first half to put the Rockets ahead by a 35-22 margin at intermission
Pearson leads the MAC with 18.3 ppg and also appears in the league rankings with 33.5 mpg (5th), 1.7 spg (5th), 4.9 def. rpg (4th), 7.0 rpg (7th) and 2.1 off. rpg (11th).
Toledo (13-11, 8-4 MAC) will host Western Michigan (17-9, 8-5 MAC) on Wednesday, Feb. 27 at 7:00 p.m. in a showdown for first place in the MAC West Division.
