Rockets Use Final Indoor Meet to Prepare for MAC Championships
ANN ARBOR, MI - The Toledo women's track and field team competed at the Silverston Invitational hosted by Michigan on Saturday. The Midnight Blue & Gold put forth a solid effort in the final competition before the Mid-American Conference championships next weekend.
Junior Ashley Phillips ran to an eighth-place finish in the 60-meter dash with a final time of 7.79. Freshman Lexis Williams followed Phillips with a time of 25.54 in the 200 meter for fourth place, while freshman Ciara Dickerson finished third in the 400 meter with a final time of 58.22.
In the 60-meter hurdles, junior Jillian Sledge finished tied for fourth place with a finals time of 8.90. Freshman Elena Cerdan finished right behding Sledge with a final mark of 9.12 in sixth place.
Seniors Kiah Douglas and Katie Bollin led the field events with a first-place finish and second-place finish in the long jump, respectively. Douglas leaped 18-07.25 feet, while Bollin recorded a final distance of 18-05.25 feet.
Senior Yuhoung Fu finished second overall in the triple jump and junior Sarah Garvin finished ninth in both throwing events.
Toledo will now focus its attention on preparing for next week's conference championship meet on Feb. 22-23. The Rockets finished in second place last season and will look to avenge that with 13 automatic qualifiers in this year's meet.
