DADE CITY, FL - Toledo split its two matches on Monday in the second-annual Mid-American Match Play event. The tournament is being hosted by Ball State University and taking place at the Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club.

The No. 3 seed Rockets tied their opening match with No. 6 seed Bowling Green, 3-3, but the Falcons advanced to the winner's bracket due to finishing with a wider margin of victory when each match was completed.  UT regrouped and downed No. 2 seed Akron in its second match by a 3.5-2.5 margin.

"We all fought to the end," Toledo Head Coach Jamie Broce said. "We got off to a slow start against Bowling Green and were behind most of the round before turning a couple of matches back in our favor.  Otto (Black) came back and won, and Thomas (Shindler) came from three down to halve the match. Jamie (Richardson) looked like he was going to win his match, but his opponent had some heroics in his last few holes and pulled off a halve.  This made the match 3-3, and we lost on the second tie breaker situation.  It came down to one hole for the decision. It was hard to take, but I really liked the way we fought. We started quickly in our second match against Akron, and hopefully we can carry that momentum into tomorrow's match vs. Miami."

Junior Oliver Holtsberry led Toledo with a pair of victories with sophomore Jamie Richardson posting a 1-0-1 mark. Sophomore Mike Lancaster and freshman Otto Black split their two matches, while freshman Thomas Shindler played to a draw in both contests.

The Rockets will close out the event on Tuesday with a matchup against No. 5 seed Miami.
