Rockets Roll to 98-58 Exhibition Victory over Siena Heights
TOLEDO, OH - Toledo posted a 98-58 exhibition victory over NAIA foe Siena Heights on Tuesday evening in its final action prior to taking a holiday break. The Rockets will return to action for their final two non-conference games against UIC (Dec. 29) and Chicago State (Dec. 31) in Savage Arena.
Junior F Matt Smith paced the Rockets with 18 points and six rebounds, including an impressive sequence in the second half that saw him block a shot off the glass and follow it up with a thunderous dunk on the other end of the court.
Joining Smith in double figures were junior G Rian Pearson (17 pts.), senior G Dominique Buckley (12 pts.), freshman C Nathan Boothe (11 pts.), freshman G Josh Lemons (11 pts.) junior F Reese Holliday (10 pts). Senior walk-on G Brendon Schwiebert, a Patrick Henry High School graduate, also contributed nine points in his Rocket debut after joining the UT squad last Friday.
Sophomore G Julius Brown tallied a team-high seven assists with just one turnovers with Holliday and Buckley dishing out five and four helpers, respectively.
Junior G Latwan Wesley topped the Saints with 11 points.
Toledo shot 54.9 percent for the game and knocked down an impressive 52.0 percent (13-of-25) of its three-point attempts. The Rockets tallied 26 assists and committed just seven turnovers, while forcing the Saints into 23 miscues.
