Ben Pike Honored With Humanitarian Award at Famous Idaho Potato Banquet
Boise, ID - Toledo senior defensive end Ben Pike was the recipient of the Humanitarian Award at the Humanitarian Awards Banquet at the Boise Center Thursday night. Receiving the award for Utah State was senior safety McKade Brady.
Pike is a member of the football team's Leadership Committee, which actively seeks out community volunteer projects. He has visited the Toledo Children's Hospital as part of this group, as well as the VA Hospital in Washington, D.C. Pike also has participated in Red Cross team fundraisers and volunteered for elementary school reading projects. Pike, who is an active member of the Christian organization Athletes in Action, in high school volunteered for a 10-day mission trip to an orphanage in the Dominican Republic.
Also at Thursday night's banquet, Toledo wide receivers squared off in a trivia battle vs. Utah State's secondary. The Rockets pulled out the victory, winning on a tie-breaker by guessing the number of potatoes in the Potato Bowl trophy.
