Four Rockets to Compete in Bluewater Bay Pro Circuit Championships
Toledo, OH - The Toledo men's tennis team will send four players to the Bluewater Bay Pro Circuit Championships in Niceville, FL on Friday, Nov 2. Junior Ben Brocker and sophomores Grant Adams, Tomas Stillman and Nick Wong are scheduled to compete in the "Futures" category for a prize of $10,000.
The four Rockets start in the 128-player qualifying tournament on Friday, with hopes of advancing to the main draw round of 32 on Monday.
"We treat this trip as a payoff for what the guys have done during the summer and early fall," UT Head Coach Al Wermer said. "These four guys deserve to go and I'm sure they'll gain a lot from this trip."
The top-10 players in the main draw bracket range from No. 340 to No. 700 in the International Tennis Federation rankings, giving the UT players a unique opportunity to be around some the of the world's best talent.
"The Futures Circuit is a proving ground for guys trying to build ATP points and reach the big show," Wermer said. "For our program, it's one of our unique additions that gives us pro tennis exposure and boosts our players' overall experience."
Toledo most recently competed in the Northwestern Wildcat Invite last weekend where Stillman led the team with four wins overall, two in singles and two in doubles.
Earlier in the fall, Wong captured a singles flight championship at the Purdue Invite on Sept. 23 and Brocker went undefeated in Toledo's home tournament on Oct. 6. Adams has also notched seven wins during fall play.
As a team, the Rockets are done with their fall schedule. They will now shift their focus towards getting ready for the dual-match opener at Purdue on Jan. 12.
