Toledo Set to Host Rocket Invite Friday and Saturday
Toledo, OH - For the fifth time in six years, the Toledo women's tennis team will host the Rocket Invitational this weekend. Three other schools are lined up to compete on the UT Varsity Tennis Courts, including Bowling Green, Detroit and Duquesne.
"Our team looks forward to playing this event every year," Head Coach Tracy Mauntler said. "It's great to play on our home courts in the middle of our beautiful campus. The atmosphere will be fantastic."
The Rocket Invitational will be played as a hidden dual format. Matches are scheduled on Friday and Saturday, beginning at 10:00 a.m. both days.
Each player or duo that wins a best-of-three match will earn a point for their team. Flight winners will be recognized at all six singles positions and all three doubles positions.
"This is the only event we play in the fall that has more of a 'team' feel and the players really appreciate that," said Mauntler.
The Rockets are coming off a solid performance at the Spartan Invite last weekend. Senior Silvia Carvajal and junior Chrissy Coffman each made a run to the semifinal match in their singles flights. Coffman defeated two women from Big Ten schools and also made a semifinal appearance in doubles action. She paired up with freshman Emily Mazzola who recorded four wins herself.
Toledo concludes the fall portion of its schedule next week when the team travels to Champaign, IL to compete in the ITA Midwest Regionals on Oct. 18.
