BOWLING GREEN, OH - The Toledo women's tennis team wrapped up their first tournament of the fall season with seven wins, four in singles play and three in doubles. Most of the 14-team tournament was played at Keefe courts on the campus of Bowling Green over the weekend. Although, a few of the final matches moved indoors to the Shadow Valley Tennis and Fitness Center in Toledo, OH due to rain.

Sophmore Lexy Pitt made a strong showing in the first flight of singles play, defeating Megan O'Sullivan (Duquesne) 6-3, 6-1 in her first match of the season. However, Xavier's Alexandra Brinker knocked Pitt out of the quarterfinals, 7-6(1), 6-0.

Senior Silvia Carvajal, junior Chrissy Coffman and freshman Emily Mazzola each won a match in singles play as well. Carvajal rebounded from a first-round loss to defeat Rachael Bridegroom (IUPUI) 6-1, 6-4, while Coffman recorded a victory in her first match over Bowling Green's Jade Johnson, 6-1, 6-4. Coffman got knocked out later on by Andrea Wolf (Xavier) in a tight match, 6-3, 4-6, 1-0(10-2).

Mazzola notched her first-career victory as a Rocket for the team's fourth win of the tourney. The Chagrin Falls, OH native also rebounded from a first-round loss and defeated Mengdi Liu (Cleveland State), 6-1, 6-0.

The combination of Coffman and freshman Mackenzie Bowman racked up two more wins for the Rockets, earning a third-place finish in the second doubles flight. They defeated Shashura/Consonary (Duquesne) 8-1, before falling to Folkers/Sherwood (Cleveland State) 8-3 in the quarterfinals. The duo showed perseverance and resiliency by coming back to defeat O'Gara/Wilson (Cincinnati) for the flight consolation crown.

With an uneven amount of players and each team wanting everyone to compete, Mazzola teamed up with Cleveland State's Maria Lazaris to record a win in doubles action. They defeated Xavier's duo of Brooke Dennis and Megan Morris, 8-5.

Team scores were not kept during the tournament.

UT will return to the courts on Friday, Oct. 5 when they travel to the Spartan Invitational, hosted by Michigan State in East Lansing, MI.
