Rockets Stand in 11th Place Following Day One of Mary Fossum Invitational
EAST LANSING, MI - Toledo sits in 11th place following 36 holes of action on Saturday at Michigan State's Mary Fossum Invitational. The tournament is being held at MSU's Forest Akers West Golf Course. The Rockets shot a 36-hole score of 45-over 621 (313-308).
Senior Allison Schultz continued the strong start to her final campaign as a Rocket and is tied for 12th place at five-over par 149 (74-75). Junior Kate Hoops (81-76) and sophomore Becky Martin (78-79) are tied for 50th place at 13-over par 157, while sophomore Stephanie St-Jean is tied for 72nd place at 18-over par 162 (80-82). Freshman Sathika Ruenreong rounds out the Rocket lineup in 83rd pace at 21-over par 165 (87-78).
"We're still right in the thick of things as far as posting a good finish in what is probably the toughest tournament we'll play in this season," Toledo Head Coach Nicole Hollingsworth said. "We played better in the second round, and I'm hoping we can continue to play that way tomorrow."
Purdue is leading the 17-team field with an impressive two-over par 578 (288-290) and is eight strokes ahead of the host Spartans (297-289=586) and 10 in front of Notre Dame (298-290=588). The Boilermakers' duo of Paula Reto and Kishi Sinha are tied with Texas State's Krista Puisite for first place in the individual standings at two-under 142.
The third and final round of the Fossum Invitational is set for Sunday with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
