Rockets Open Up 2012 Training Camp With Split Practices
TOLEDO - Training camp for the Toledo Rockets football team opened up this morning at 8:30 a.m. at the Glass Bowl for about half the squad. The other half will practice this afternoon.
This morning's group may be the lucky ones, because although it was humid and about 80 degrees at the start of practice, by 4:00 today the mercury is expected to rise above 90.
The Rockets will continue the split practices throughout the weekend, then begin full-team practices on Monday.
Expectations are high for first-year head coach Matt Campbell's squad. The Rockets (9-4, 7-1 MAC in 2011) were picked to finish in first place in the West Division of the Mid-American Conference by the MAC Newsmedia.
The Rockets return 12 starters from last year's team, including three All-MAC players. As always, a close eye will be kept on the competition at quarterback, where Campbell has junior Terrance Owens and senior Austin Dantin battling for playing time. Both QBs spent time as starters in 2011, and both finished in the top 25 in the nation in QB efficiency.
