TOLEDO, OH - Another academic award rolled in for the University of Toledo women's volleyball program on Friday when it received the American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award for the 2011-12 school year. It is the 12th straight season the Rockets have received the prestigious award.

     The Rocket volleyball program led the UT athletic department in both the fall and spring semesters this past academic year with an impressive 3.641 cumulative grade-point average in the spring after posting a 3.613 GPA in the fall.

     Initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, the award honors colleges that displayed excellence in the classroom by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team GPA during the entire school year. Toledo was one of a record 103 NCAA Division I institutions to be honored.

     Toledo opens its 2012 campaign under fourth-year Head Coach Greg Smith when it travels to Columbus, OH for the Ohio State Sports Imports Classic on Friday-Saturday, Aug. 24-25. UT fans can get a sneak preview of the team at the Blue-Gold Match on Friday, Aug. 17 at 7:00 p.m. in Savage Arena.

     The Rockets open their 2012 home schedule with the Rocket Classic on Friday-Saturday, Sept. 7-8. UT will host Florida Gulf Coast, Illinois State and Memphis in the tournament.
