TOLEDO, OH - Rocket swimmer Laura Lindsay was Toledo's nominee this year for the NCAA Woman of the Year award.

A two-time All-American and first-team All-MAC selection, Lindsay was undefeated in the 100 and 200 breaststroke in the regular season and broke the meet, MAC and pool record in the 200 event with a time of 2:09.79 at the 2012 MAC Championships.  She was also a part of the Rockets' first-place 200 and 400 medley relay teams to help the Rockets to their second conference title in the last three years.

The Uniontown, OH native put an exclamation point on her athletic career in the Midnight Blue and Gold at the 2012 NCAA Championships at Auburn University. After tying for 15th place in the prelims of the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:00.23, Lindsay won the consolation final in a time of 59.61 to take ninth place overall. The finish was good enough to earn an "A" cut, the first time a UT swimmer has accomplished an NCAA "A" cut in school history. As a top-15 finisher, she earned All-American accolades that topped her 12th-place finish at the NCAA meet a year ago.

Now in its 22nd year, the NCAA Women of the Year honors female student-athletes who have distinguished themselves throughout their college careers in academic achievement, athletic excellence, community services and leadership.

To be eligible for the award, a female student-athlete must have completed intercollegiate eligibility in her primary sport by the end of the 2012 spring season, graduated no later than the end of the summer 2012 term and achieved a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 2.5.

Along with Lindsay, the following student-athletes were nominated by other MAC institutions: Valerie Fraizer, Akron (Track and Field); Paulina Lee, Central Michigan (Field Hockey); Tavelyn James, Eastern Michigan (Basketball); Carla Johl, Kent State (Field Hockey); Kristin Hoffman, Northern Illinois (Volleyball) Brittany Tyree, Ohio (Track and Field); Jillian Van Wagnen, Ohio (Softball); Leah Grawburg, Western Michigan (Golf).
