MONROE, MI - Junior Kate Hoops (Lima, OH) registered a dramatic quarterfinal victory on Thursday to advance to the semifinals of the 112th Women's Western Golf Association National Amateur Championship. The tournament is being played at the Monroe (MI) Golf & Country Club.
Hoops won on the 20th hole against Emily White thanks to a birdie putt. The semifinals will be held on Friday morning with the championship taking place on Friday afternoon.
Two other Rockets saw their run at the WWGA come to an end. Piyathida Chaiyapan (Bangkok, Thailand) lost in the Round of 32 by a 3 & 2 margin to Isabelle Kane, while sophomore Megan Carroll (Cleves, OH) fell 6 & 5 in the third flight to Mikayla Baer.
