TOLEDO, OH - The Toledo women's basketball program produced an outstanding showing in the classroom with a 3.263 cumulative GPA in the recently completed 2012 Spring semester. The Rockets have now posted team grade-point averages above 3.0 in seven of the eight grade periods under Head Coach Tricia Cullop.

Eleven Rockets posted a 3.0 GPA or higher led by senior Naama Shafir with a perfect 4.0 mark. In addition to Shafir, six others (senior Haylie Linn, junior Riley McCormick, junior Yolanda Richardson, junior Lecretia Smith, freshman Ana Capotosto, freshman Stephanie Recker) earned a spot on the University's Dean's List (3.5 GPA or higher). Senior Kyle Baumgartner, senior Courtney Ingersoll, sophmore Andola Dortch and freshman Inma Zanoguera also registered a 3.0 GPA or higher.

The women's basketball program's performance was a part of the athletic department's successful spring semester which saw UT student-athletes earn a record GPA of 3.266, shattering the previous high mark of 3.167 set in the fall of 2011. It was the fourth time in the last five semesters that UT student-athletes have broken the GPA record but none of the previous increases were as dramatic as last semester.

The 3.266 GPA also marked the seventh consecutive semester that UT student-athletes have earned a combined GPA of 3.1 or higher, and the 12th time in the last 14 semesters above a 3.0. Additionally, 14 of UT's 15 sport programs had team GPAs of 3.0 or above, and every program had a team GPA of at least 2.9. It was the first time in school history that 14 varsity sports registered a team GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Individually, 26 student-athletes earned perfect 4.0 GPAs, including Shafir, while nearly 41 percent (133 of 327) earned a spot on the Dean's List by garnering at least a 3.50 GPA. Additionally, a record 70.9 percent of UT student-athletes achieved a 3.0 grade point average or better for the 2012 spring semester, the 17th consecutive semester in which at least half of Rocket student-athletes earned a 3.0+ GPA.

Women's volleyball had the highest team GPA for the second consecutive semester at 3.641, just beating out women's soccer (3.622). Men's tennis had the highest GPA for a men's team with 3.446.
