Oxford, OH - The Toledo softball team dropped the second game of its weekend series against Miami on Sunday, May 6, losing 9-1 in five innings. Despite ending the regular-season on a four-game skid, UT found its way into the Mid-American Conference tournament as the No. 8 seed. It marks the first time that the Midnight Blue and Gold will compete in the post-season since 1997.

The Rockets (18-36, 8-14) were held to only two hits by Miami for the second day in a row, and posted one run in the top of the third inning. With one out in the third, Brooke Gates singled past the shortstop and scored on the next play, when a ball hit by Alyssa Smith was misfielded by the second baseman and gates advanced home on a throwing error by the centerfielder.

Despite losing its four games this weekend, UT was able to maintain its position in the eighth slot because Eastern Michigan lost to Central Michigan twice.

Toledo will play against fifth-seeded Western Michigan on Wednesday, May 9 at 11 a.m. Live stats will be provided on www.mac-sports.com.
