Toledo, OH - The Toledo women's tennis team announced its team awards for the 2011-12 season on Wednesday, May 2, with winners being named in five categories. The athletes on the team voted on each individual category, with the person with the most votes in each receiving the award.

Student-athletes were recognized in categories of Team . The majority of the awards are self-explanatory, with the Spirit Award going to the person who best embodies what it means to be a true Rocket - someone who is selfless and puts the team ahead of themselves.

The award recipients are as follows:

Most Valuable Player: Kelsey Anonsen

Leadership Award: Kelsey Anonsen

Spirit Award: Silvia Carvajal

Newcomer of the Year: Lexy Pitt

Most Improved Player: Chrissy Coffman

"I really believe that everyone on the team played their role this year," said head coach Tracy Mauntler. "We needed different players to step up at different times and that's exactly what they did. I feel so confident with the core of the team returning with such great experience from this season."
