Toledo, OH - The Toledo women's tennis team will compete for the conference crown this weekend in DeKalb, IL, as Northern Illinois University hosts the 2012 Mid-American Conference championships.

Entering the tournament as the No. 8 seed, the Rockets (9-12, 2-6 MAC) will play their first-round matchup against No. 9 Ball State on Thursday, April 26 at 1 p.m. Should they win, the team will advance to the quarterfinal round to take on top-seed Miami on Friday, April 27 at 10 a.m.

Toledo ended the regular-season on a cool streak, losing three of its final four matches. UT's last win was a narrow 4-3 road victory at Buffalo on April 13. With a focus on the next competitor, the Midnight Blue and Gold also pulled out a 4-3 victory over Ball State at home on March 31.

The Rockets have played tremendous tennis over the course of the season, but have had to deal with the additional pressure of only competing with a five-person roster. The lack of bodies gives the opposition points by default in No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles.

"I feel like we are playing the best tennis of the season right now and even with five players, we are dangerous," said head coach Tracy Mauntler.
